Recount does not collect, transmit, store or have access to anything you dictate. Speech is converted to text by a model running on your own computer.
When you dictate, your microphone audio is held in memory on your machine, converted to text locally, and discarded. It is not written to disk, not sent anywhere, and not retained after the text is produced. The speech model is part of the program itself, so no network connection is involved in transcription at all.
This is a property of how the software is built, not a policy we apply. There is no upload path in the program. Recount transcribes with no internet connection available, which you are welcome to verify by disconnecting.
Two things, both infrequent, and neither contains anything you dictated.
Both can be prevented entirely by blocking the application in your firewall. Doing so does not disable dictation.
A licence file and your chosen vocabulary setting, under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Ackerworks\Recount\. The licence file is encrypted using Windows' own facility so that copying it to another machine renders it unreadable. Neither contains anything you dictated. Uninstalling removes the folder.
There are none. No usage statistics, no crash reporting, no identifiers, no advertising, and no third-party analytics of any kind. We cannot tell whether you use the software, how often, or for what.
Purchases are handled by our payment provider, who acts as merchant of record. They receive your billing details directly and are covered by their own privacy policy. We receive a record that a sale occurred and the licence key issued — not your card details.
Because no protected information ever reaches us, we are not a processor or business associate of yours, and there is no data-sharing agreement to negotiate. Recount is a tool that runs on your equipment, in the same category as the word processor you type into.
This is a description of how the software behaves, not legal advice about your obligations. If you work under HIPAA, legal privilege, or a similar duty, your own compliance assessment still governs.
If this ever changes it will be because the software changed, and the date above will change with it. A version of Recount that transmitted your audio would not be a policy update; it would be a different product.
